FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Office Partitioning

We have compiled the topics our clients are most curious about

How long does it take?

5–10 days for a mid-sized office (100–200 m²).

Do the partitions keep sound in?

Double boarding with stone wool infill gives high sound insulation.

Can the partitions be taken down and rebuilt?

A drywall partition comes down easily and leaves little rubble, but the boards are usually not reused. If your layout is likely to change often, we plan for that together at the survey.

Do you install the electrics?

Sockets, switches, lighting and data points can all be built in.

Can the office keep working during installation?

Yes. We work after hours, at weekends or in phases so your business keeps running.

How many decibels does a meeting room need for speech privacy?

Normal speech is about 60 dB. For what is said next door to be unintelligible, the wall needs to perform around 45–50 dB — reachable with a double-layer partition filled with mineral wool. Where merely "not overhearing" is not enough — legal, medical, HR conversations — we target above 50 dB and a twin-frame build-up. A single-layer empty partition at 35 dB does effectively nothing for a meeting room.

What is a slab-to-slab partition and why does it matter so much?

It means the partition continues to the structural slab above rather than stopping at the suspended ceiling. When a meeting room "still leaks", that is almost always the reason: the wall ends at the ceiling and sound simply crosses over the top through the ceiling void. This is called flanking, and no amount of extra thickness in the wall itself will fix it. In rooms that need privacy we take the partition to the slab and insulate within the ceiling void too.

Do glass office partitions block sound?

They do, but the spread between systems is wide. A single-glazed partition typically gives 30–35 dB — visual separation, not acoustic separation. Double-glazed systems with a cavity reach 40–45 dB. If you want transparency and privacy at once you need all three of double glazing, slab-to-slab construction and a sealed door; missing any one of them makes the result disappointing. The door is usually the weak link: hang an unsealed door in a 45 dB wall and the whole assembly performs at the door's level.

How do sockets, data points and switches go into a partition?

Conduit is run through the studs while the frame is open and back-box positions are set in advance. Power and data run in separate conduits — a mains cable sharing a conduit induces noise on the data line. We never place boxes back-to-back on opposite faces; that alignment drops acoustic performance at that point, so boxes are offset by at least one stud bay. Box positions have to be finalised before the wall is closed.

How is noise controlled in an open-plan office?

In open plan the problem is not sound *transmission* but sound *build-up* — adding walls does not solve it. We work in three layers: absorption (acoustic ceiling, baffles, wall panels) shortens reverberation; blocking (desk screens, a run of storage) interrupts the direct path; separation moves concentrated talking — calls and meetings — into enclosed pods. Fitting an acoustic ceiling alone makes a noticeable difference in most offices and is the cheapest step.

Can you carry out the work while I am abroad?

Yes. We agree the scope in writing before starting, send dated progress photographs at each stage, and can hold a video call on site whenever you want to see something specific. Keys are handed over against a written record, and the flat is cleaned and photographed again at handover.

How is the scope agreed and what does the written quote contain?

After the survey you receive a written scope listing the rooms and areas covered, the system chosen for each, the brand and product of the boards, profiles and insulation, the surface finish level, and the number of working days. Anything not on that list is not in the price, which is what stops the mid-project additions that make contractor quotes unreliable. Nothing is charged beyond the written scope without your approval.

How long before the property is usable or ready to let?

Ceilings and partitions leave the space usable as soon as the crew finishes. Painting needs longer: the film cures over roughly a week, and the smell in a ventilated flat clears within two to three days. If a flat is being prepared for tenants, plan on a few extra days after handover for airing and cleaning rather than scheduling a viewing for the day of completion.
